Javier, Ubertester: “Ubertesters pays for your efforts and provides the groundwork for new challenges to overcome.”

Tequila, sombreros and tortillas… Today we will bring you closer than ever to Mexico, its culture and its incredible people!

Javier, Ubertester from the small Mexican city of Sahuayo, has told us his story of joining the community of professional testers and the most challenging tasks he faced during his career.

Javier joined Ubertesters in September of 2014. Before that, he worked as a mobile freelancer and a full-time QA.

Javier is 26 years old. He is currently working in Scio Consulting as a QA, as well as freelancing his skills to Ubertesters. During his past experiences, Javier has tested different types of applications of different manners. Right now, he is learning how to automate with Appium and working with Selenium. In his free time, Javier is either studying or running/cycling.

“I have a degree in Energy Engineering, of which I acquired studying the quality of energy, while simultaneously starting work in the area of IT for about three years,” – Javier says. “After a postgraduate degree entrance course, where I improved my programming skills, I was contracted by Scio Consulting to work as a Quality Assurance Analyst.”

Industries Javier has worked in include the following:

  • Social & Communications;
  • Games & Gaming;
  • Software & Security;
  • Media & Entertainment;
  • Travel & Leisure;
  • Education & Learning;
  • Healthcare & Fitness.

Within these industries, he has worked with test case writing, test case execution, function testing, bug fix verification, exploratory testing, performance testing, and test automation.

“I like to do my best, concentrate on what I’m doing, inquire about matters I’m unsure about, collaborate in teamwork, and pay attention to the finer details,” – says Javier.

We asked Javier seven questions that we and some of our clients wanted to know.

Ubertester Tells: Interview with Javier from Mexico

Javier, what was the most exciting project you had in your Ubertesters QA career? What did you like most about it?

It was a Social & Communications project for consumers.

I love to put my skills to the test, which is why the challenges are always my favorite part of the job. These challenges included small cycles, an abundance of information, the fast-approaching deadlines, and cooperating with people all over the world. Yeas, this is what I liked most about it!

What is the most horrifying/bizarre bug you ever encountered?

The app crashed when I tried to communicate with the API of Facebook and Twitter. There were many symptoms within this one bug.

What is a daily habit that you developed in your life as a result of your profession and found to be really useful?

I am more proactive and organized because of my profession. I have had to improve my work ethic, because working as a freelancer was necessary for me to manage my schedule and my responsibilities

What are the main benefits of working with Ubertesters?

Ubertesters pays you for your efforts, recognizes your witty, humorous work, and provides the groundwork for new challenges to overcome!

What are the characteristics of a bad software tester?

A bad software tester doesn’t speak the truth, isn’t proactive, doesn’t work well with others, and isn’t committed to neither the project nor the team members.

What does your ideal work place look like?

My ideal workplace is at or near my home so I can always be with my family.

What advice would you like to give to testers who are just starting their career in Ubertesters?

Read the overview and instructions of the project. When you are finished, read it, read again, and ask yourself if you understood what you’ve just read. When you truly understand what is expected of you, that is when you can finally start the project!
